Qualcomm just revealed its new Snapdragon X2 Elite series. These chips aim to power the next wave of Windows laptops. They promise big gains in speed and battery life. And they pack advanced AI features too.

Performance leaps exceed expectations

The Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme has up to 18 CPU cores. Twelve of those are “prime” cores. Six are “performance” cores. Two prime cores can hit 5.0 GHz. That makes it the first Arm chip to reach that speed. The standard X2 Elite also offers 18 cores in one variant and 12 in another. It can boost up to 4.7 GHz.

Qualcomm claims the new chips deliver 31 percent faster CPU performance at the same power level. They also use 43 percent less energy than the previous generation. That means more work and play time on a single charge.

“We built Snapdragon X2 to push boundaries,” said Cristiano Amon, Qualcomm’s CEO. “This is a leap forward for Windows laptops.”

AI power scales with 80 TOPS NPU

AI tasks run on the Hexagon NPU. It delivers 80 TOPS of AI compute. That is 37 percent more performance than before, at 16 percent lower power draw. Qualcomm calls it the “world’s fastest laptop NPU.” These chips can handle on-device AI features like real-time language translation and photo editing without the cloud.

Graphics get major boost

The Adreno GPU now runs at up to 1.85 GHz. Qualcomm says it offers 2.3× better performance per watt. That means smoother video editing and casual gaming. The chips support DirectX 12.2 Ultimate, Vulkan 1.4 and OpenCL 3.0. You can drive up to three 5K 60 Hz monitors at once.

Battery life and efficiency

Built on a 3 nm process, the X2 chips are very efficient. Qualcomm says you can expect “multi-day battery life.” Last year’s X Elite machines already hit 14–18 hours. These new chips will push that even further. You get big performance without sacrificing run time.

Connectivity and security features

The X2 Elite chips include Wi-Fi 7 and 5G. Peak 5G speeds can hit 10 Gbps. Thunderbolt support is also on the roadmap. For security, Qualcomm adds its new Snapdragon Guardian Technology. It lets users locate, lock or erase a lost PC remotely.

Arrival in early 2026

The first laptops with Snapdragon X2 Elite and Extreme will ship in the first half of 2026. They will span thin-and-light notebooks, gaming machines and mini-desktops. Get ready for Windows PCs with long battery life, blazing speed and on-device AI.
